Interlibrary Loan

Aim
Inter-Library Loan (ILL) is a service which provides access to material not held within the Faculty Libraries of Ankara University, enabling users to borrow books/articles from other university and research libraries in Turkey.

Scope
It includes the method and regulations to be followed by our users who would like to use this service.

Responsibility
The Head of the Department of Library and Documentation, and the Administrators of the Faculty Libraries of Ankara University are responsible for the application of this instruction.

Rules concerning borrowing from other university/research libraries

  • This service is available to academic staff and post-graduate students at Ankara University.
  • Before proceeding with the ILL service, you should go to the Online Catalogue to find out whether the material you are searching for is held in our collections or not.
  • The terms of the ILL service depends on the loan policy of the respective university library (i.e. the number of books that can be checked out at once, and the loan duration).
  •  ILL requests are not applicable to journals, reference sources, dissertations, books on reserve, and books that are not for loan.
  • Books borrowed via the ILL service are sent by the respective institute to the Faculty Library which has placed the request. Our users may collect the books from the same Faculty Library where the request has been placed. The user is charged for photocopying and shipping costs.
  • Books should be returned without any damage to the respective Faculty Library three days prior to the due date of the borrowed item.
  • In cases where the borrowed book is not returned in time or is lost, the regulations of the respective university library apply.

Users who would like to use this service need to complete the ILL Form in full, and submit the form in person to the Faculty or Institute Library where they are affiliated with.

Rules concerning borrowing from Ankara University Library

  1. Before proceeding with the ILL service, you should go to the Online Catalogue to find out whether the material you are searching for is held in our collections or not.

Materials below are not to be borrowed via the ILL:

a)      Reference sources (dictionaries, encyclopaedias, indexes etc.)

b)      Periodicals (journals, newspapers, news bulletins etc.)

c)      Course books

d)     Books on reserve

e)      Dissertations (print or non-print)

f)       Audio-visual material such as atlases, maps, films, slides, etc.

  1. Researchers who would like to request a book from our Library need to submit their request to the librarian in charge at their institute. The librarian in charge, then, logs in to the Inter-Library Loan Tracking System (KITS), and sends the request to Ankara University Library.
  1. Only 3 books for a period of 30 days may be borrowed.
  1. The loan may be renewed only once (provided there are no reservations on the borrowed book(s)).
  1. New requests from a library which has an overdue item on its account are put on hold.
  1. All overdue items are subject to fine, and the fine will continue to increase daily on each overdue item until the item is returned.
  1. As a reminder, an e-mail is sent to the library which holds an overdue book. If the borrowed book is not returned despite the reminders, the procedure of lost book is applied, and the respective university library is charged for the replacement of the borrowed book.  Unless the required fine is paid, requests from that library are put on hold.
  1. The library which places a request is held responsible for the possible damages (i.e. overdue items, damaged items, and shipping losses) that may happen during the loan period of the borrowed items.
  1. The library which wants to place a book request from Ankara University Library is considered to have agreed to the 12th article of the Regulations of the Ankara University Libraries, concerning the fees for overdue items, and lost or damaged books.
  1. The library which places a request is responsible for paying for the postage charges for the incoming and outgoing items.

 

Please note the following:

  1. The arrival of the requested book(s) may vary according to the institution issuing the request, and the preferred postal service.
  1. The user who places a request via the ILL is considered to have agreed to use the borrowed book(s) in compliance with the copyright law, and to return the book(s) before the due date.
  1. As part of the ILL, it is highly important to return the borrowed book(s) to the respective library on time. Overdue item(s) may damage the University’s reputation in lending circles, and future requests may not be processed.
